The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland
The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s leading research and teaching institutions. The school strives for excellence through the creation, preservation, transfer and application of knowledge. For more than a century, UQ has educated and worked with outstanding people to deliver knowledge leadership for a better world.

UQ has a strong focus on teaching excellence, winning more Australian Teaching and Learning Council Awards for Teaching Excellence than any other university in the country and attracting the majority of Queensland's highest academic achievers, as well as top interstate and overseas students.

The educators of UQ are committed to excellence in learning experiences and outcomes for their students.

The university’s outstanding 220,000-plus alumni include a Nobel laureate, the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, an Academy Award winner, and leaders in government, law, science, public service and the arts. The university celebrates its alumni as its greatest assets. Their achievements make the university great – and, in return, the university will work hard to strengthen its reputation
The University of Queensland (UQ) has one of the most comprehensive high-quality range of undergraduate programs in Australia, many of which can be ‘customized’ by specialized fields of study. Students can also ‘mix and match’ their chosen programs with electives and dual degrees.

A dual degree program at UQ allows the student to undertake two bachelor degrees at the same time, but in a shorter period of time than if they were completing the two separately. This option gives graduates a competitive edge in the workplace because of the additional knowledge and skills they have acquired.

The UQ Advantage Award program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to realize their aspirations and enhance their research, leadership and cultural communication skills to ensure they are competitive in the employment market. It combines participation in a range of co-curricular activities across three core categories – Global and Cultural Engagement, Research and Entrepreneurship and Social Responsibility and Leadership – and gives students access to a unique symposium series.

UQ has been fortunate to host many international political and thought leaders over the years, and is proud that this now includes United States President Barack Obama. President Obama addressed a room full of youth UQ during his visit to Brisbane for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. He recognized UQ as “one of the world’s great institutions of science and teaching” and was impressed by the university’s diverse international community and research innovations.

Global acclaim

UQ is ranked #46 in the QS World University Rankings and is one of only three Australian members of the global Universitas 21, a founding member of the Group of Eight (Go8) universities, and a member of Universities Australia.
